Core difference

Otterly has the reviews to back up its core job: prompt tracking, citation rankings, GEO-readiness audits, from $29 a month. It's Gartner-recognized and well reviewed for measurement. Otterly identifies issues and opportunities but leaves implementation to your team or existing content process. Siftly overlaps on monitoring, then adds a draft article or outreach list for what it finds. One measures visibility. The other measures it and helps improve it.

Where the rest of the field sits

Otterly is one of roughly a dozen tools competing for the same budget line, and the gaps between them are wider than the category name suggests. If you are still deciding whether this is even the right comparison to be reading, here is where the rest of the field sits, based on how each vendor describes itself today rather than on a scorecard we invented.

Profound is the most enterprise-weighted option most buyers will shortlist. Profound organises its product around agents rather than dashboards: the surfaces it leads with are prompt volumes, answer engine insights, agent analytics and a planning layer it calls Aim. The framing is “scale your presence, not your workload,” which is a fair summary of who it suits — teams large enough that the bottleneck is throughput rather than knowing what to do. Profound tends to appear in the same evaluations as Siftly once a company has decided AI search matters and is arguing about how much to spend on it.

Peec AI takes the opposite posture. Peec positions itself plainly as AI search analytics for marketing teams, and the product reflects that: prompt tracking, brand perception, competitor comparison and reporting a marketer can put in front of a stakeholder without translation. Peec AI is the tool most often described as the clean, legible one, and among European teams it has become a common first purchase. It is a good fit if reporting is the job to be done, and a weaker one if you need something to change after the report lands.

Scrunch AI approaches the problem from the infrastructure side. Its argument — “humans don't visit your website anymore, AI does” — leads to a product concerned with how your site is built for machine readers, alongside visibility tracking and a large corpus of what people ask AI. Scrunch is explicitly enterprise-first, and that shows in both onboarding and price. It is worth saying that Scrunch is not alone here: Otterly's own GEO audit inspects a site the way an AI crawler sees it and returns prioritised fixes, and several others have added similar checks. What Scrunch AI has is depth and an enterprise posture around it, not exclusivity.

AthenaHQ sits closest to Profound in ambition and closest to Peec in feel. It leads with becoming “the brand AI trusts” and sells an agent-driven loop of seeing, acting and winning on AI search. Acting on findings is no longer a rare claim in this category — most vendors here now market some version of it — but AthenaHQ has been among the more explicit about it, and for teams comparing Otterly on price it is usually the step up they consider next.

Semrush is the incumbent answer, and for a lot of companies the pragmatic one. Its enterprise platform now covers brand visibility across AI search alongside the traditional SEO stack, and the pitch is consolidation: one contract, one vendor, one place the data already lives. Semrush will not go as deep on answer-engine specifics as the focused tools, and its AI visibility features are newer than its core product. But if you already pay Semrush and the question is whether AI search justifies a second vendor at all, starting there and finding the limits yourself is a defensible way to run the evaluation.

The honest summary is that Otterly competes on price and audit depth, Peec AI and Semrush compete on legibility and consolidation, Profound and AthenaHQ compete on doing more of the work for you, and Scrunch AI competes on infrastructure. Siftly's position is narrower than any of them: monitoring and follow-through in one product, aimed at teams who would rather not staff the gap between the two. That is a real trade-off and it will not suit everyone reading this.

Picking between them without a trial

Most teams evaluating this category run two or three trials in parallel, discover the tools disagree with each other, and lose a month deciding which one to believe. A faster route is to work out which disagreement you actually care about before you start.

If the question is “are we visible at all?”, almost anything here answers it, and you should optimise for price and speed of setup. Otterly's entry tier and Peec AI's reporting both clear that bar in an afternoon. Paying enterprise money to answer a question a cheap tool answers is the most common mistake in this evaluation.

If the question is “why are we losing to a specific competitor on specific prompts?”, you need per-prompt, per-engine attribution and a prompt set large enough that the numbers are stable week to week. Ask every vendor the same question: how many responses sit behind a single percentage on this dashboard, and how often is it refreshed? Sample size is the variable that decides whether the weekly movement you are about to react to is signal or noise, and it varies by plan as much as by vendor, so compare the tier you would actually buy rather than the one in the demo.

If the question is “what do we change on Tuesday?”, the field has converged more than it used to have. Otterly, Peec AI and Semrush lean towards showing you the gap. Profound and AthenaHQ address closing it with agents. Siftly addresses it by putting content generation and citation outreach in the same product as the monitoring. The distinction worth probing is not whether a vendor claims to act, because most now do, but what specifically it produces — a recommendation, a draft, a published page, or an outreach email — and who reviews it before it ships.

If the question is “can machines read our site properly?”, Scrunch AI goes deepest, Otterly's GEO audit covers the common cases, and it is worth checking before you buy any visibility tool. A site that renders badly to crawlers will produce disappointing numbers on every dashboard you point at it, and no amount of monitoring will explain why.

One last piece of process advice that costs nothing: before the trials start, write down the five prompts you would be embarrassed not to appear in. Run those five through each tool. Vendors differ enormously in how they sample prompts, and a tool that looks strong on its own curated set can look ordinary on yours. It is the cheapest way to make this comparison — or any comparison, including this one — argue with reality instead of with itself.

Can we use both?

It's a reasonable pairing. Otterly's audits and rankings can surface where a large site is under-cited or losing visibility, and Siftly can turn those findings into content or outreach. If your marketing team already publishes weekly but the reporting keeps creating work nobody prioritizes, adding Siftly's execution layer tends to close that handoff. Teams on a tighter budget sometimes start with Otterly alone and add Siftly once they're ready to act on what it finds.

Before working with Siftly, Domu had no meaningful visibility across AI search platforms. Within a month, we moved from not showing up at all to ranking #9, with visibility gains across Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and ChatGPT. Siftly gave us a clear view of where we stood, what was driving visibility, and what actions could move us further.
