Why AI search

Your buyers ask AI now.
Does it name you?

Buyers used to scan ten links and pick one. Now they ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google’s AI Mode, and the answer names a few brands. If yours is not one of them, you are not on the shortlist, and nothing in your analytics tells you.

Then

Buyers used to search.

They typed a few words, scanned ten links and clicked one. A good ranking put you in front of them, and your analytics recorded the visit.

What changed

Search rewarded rankings. AI rewards being named.

A ranking gave you a number. Position three for “trail running shoes” was something you could check, watch move, and tie to the clicks it earned.

An AI answer has no position three. It is written fresh for each question, cites a handful of pages, and names two or three brands. Ask again tomorrow, or on another engine, and the list changes.

None of that reaches your analytics. The answers you are left out of leave no trace, which is the gap Siftly was built to close.

When Google shows an AI summary, people click a regular result on 8% of visits, against 15% without one. Pew Research Center, 2025

So what gets a brand named?

Answers to the real questions.

Engines answer the exact question asked, budget and use case included. Brands that publish for those questions give the engine something to cite.

Mentions on trusted sources.

Most citations point to pages you don't own: reviews, publishers, forum threads. Where those pages name you, answers start to name you.

Access for AI crawlers.

An engine can only cite what its crawler fetched. GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot pass over pages that are blocked or built only with scripts.

What Siftly does

Siftly reads the answers. Then it helps you change them.

Every day, Siftly asks the questions you care about on nine AI engines and records each answer: the brands in it, their order, and the pages the engine cited.

It points you to where the answer is decided: the questions you lose, the sources that name your competitors, and the pages of yours that crawlers never reach. It drafts what is missing and publishes it through the CMS you already use.

Then it measures the result for every page: which crawlers fetched it, which answers now cite it, and the clicks Search Console and GA4 report. You keep what moved the answer and drop what didn't.

How Siftly helps

See it, understand it, act on it, prove it. Four steps Siftly runs every week, shown on Stride's trail-shoe question.

Step 01 · See

Know which answers name you. Siftly asks your buyers' questions on nine AI engines every day and keeps every answer.

  • Visibility, rank and share of voice for each question and engine
  • The brands each answer names, and in what order
  • A Slack alert the moment a citation moves

Stride exampleStride appears in 23% of answers to “best trail running shoes under $150”, ranks seventh, and only on Perplexity.

Step 02 · Understand

See why the answer says what it says. Every page an engine cites, the brands those pages mention, and where a competitor is named instead of you.

  • The domains and pages each engine cites, ranked by share
  • Sources that name your competitors and leave you out
  • Your own pages that earn citations, and the ones that never do

Stride examplegearpatrol.com's trail roundup is cited in the answer and names Kestrel, not Stride, so it goes on Stride's outreach list.

Step 03 · Act

Publish what the answer is missing. Drafts built from real citation data, checked against your brand facts, and published to your CMS.

  • Drafts written for the questions you lose, not a keyword list
  • Publishing to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity and five more CMSs
  • Outreach and Reddit replies drafted for the sources that leave you out

Step 04 · Prove

Why now

Answers change faster than rankings did.

A ranking moved slowly enough to check once a month. An AI answer is rewritten every time someone asks, engines retune how they search and cite, and one new page from a competitor can take a question you owned. Without daily measurement, you learn about it when the pipeline slows.

You can’t fix an answer you have never read. The first step is to see, question by question and engine by engine, where you are named and where you are not.

FAQ

Questions teams ask first.

AI search is how people find information through answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode. Instead of a list of links, the engine searches the web, reads the pages it finds, and writes one answer that names the brands and sources it trusts.
Yes. Many AI engines search the web before they answer, so pages that are indexed, crawlable and useful remain the raw material answers are built from. What changes is the goal: ranking a page is no longer the finish line. The page also has to be the source an answer cites, and your brand has to be named on the other sources the engine reads.
GEO, or generative engine optimization, is the practice of improving how often AI engines name and cite your brand. It covers the pages on your site, your presence on the third-party sources engines trust, and access for AI crawlers. See GEO content for how Siftly approaches it.
Siftly tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Claude, Grok and DeepSeek. Each prompt runs on the engines your plan includes, and results are broken out per engine.
